About Kinnections Community Wellness 

Kinnections Community Wellness is dedicated to supporting families and individuals in Edmonton and area with extra or extraordinary needs. As a partnership program of Crossroads Family Services and Family Solutions Group, we deliver clinically informed, responsive, tailored support services that make wellness possible in our communities. 

Our Mission 

At Kinnections, we believe that healthy caregiving cannot be done alone. Our mission is to provide the support and resources needed for families to thrive, even in the face of complex challenges. We offer a range of services designed to strengthen families and help children, adults, and seniors with various needs reach their full potential. 

Our Services

Community Care

We offer flexible support for caregivers of children, adults, and seniors with high needs, giving caregivers in the Edmonton area essential breaks to recharge. Our services include:

  • Hourly Respite: At Kinnections, we offer flexible, skilled support right where you need it. Whether at home or in the community, our trained staff can assist with daily routines, behavioural support, and meaningful engagement. Support can take place in your home environment, or if preferred, we can provide a staff member to accompany your loved one on a community outing, offering a safe and enriching break for both the individual and their caregivers.
  • Overnight Host Homes: Sometimes, a few hours of respite just isn’t enough. When you need a longer break, whether it’s for a weekend, a single night, or on a regular basis, we are here to help. We match individuals with high needs of any age with trained, welcoming host families who provide safe, supportive overnight care in a home environment. Whether you’re a caregiver in need of rest or simply looking for trusted extended support, our host homes offer peace of mind and a chance to recharge.

Family Development

We provide programs to support caregivers of children with high needs. 

  • Kinnect House: An intensive, clinically monitored intervention program for atypical children and their families. Kinnect House offers a structured, therapeutic environment where children can develop essential skills and families can learn effective strategies for managing complex needs. 
  • Intensive Host Home: Many children and families find meaningful support through our Intensive Host Home program. Our specially-trained Level II Host Home Families offer respite care and family breaks in a nurturing home environment, providing the individualized attention that helps children thrive. 
  • Behaviour Development Services: Specialized coaching and support for managing complex behaviours for Kinnections families with FSCD approval, provided by our team of experienced Behaviour Specialists.

Personalized Community Foster Care Program

We place children and youth with complex needs in trained, family-based home settings as an alternative to group care. We recruit experienced caregivers in Edmonton and surrounding communities, providing them with specialized training and ongoing clinical support.

Our Approach 

Kinnections offers a compassionate, knowledgeable approach to wellness, recognizing that each family’s needs are unique. We focus on: 

  1. Individualized Support: Our services are tailored to meet the specific needs of each family and individual. 
  2. Professional Expertise: Our team includes experienced caregivers, behaviour specialists, mental health professionals and clinical psychologists. 
  3. Collaborative Care: We work closely with families, multidisciplinary professionals, as well as other agencies and community resources to provide effective and comprehensive support. 
  4. Continuous Learning: We provide ongoing training and resources for both our staff and the families we serve.

Our History

Kinnections Community Wellness program opened in South Edmonton in 2014 as an expansion of Crossroads Family Services and Family Solutions Group, which has been serving Alberta families for over 30 years. We grew out of a recognized need for specialized support services for families dealing with complex care needs. 

 In 2019 we launched the Kinnect House Program, providing an intensive, clinically monitored intervention option for families who need a higher level of support.
