Personalized Community Foster Care

Open Your Heart and Home to Children and Youth with High Support Needs in Edmonton

Caregiver and teenager connecting in the Personalized Community Foster Care program.

Personalized Community Foster Care (PCC) is a specialized foster care model that matches children and youth with complex needs with a trained family setting, rather than a group home. It is evidence-based, family-centred, and built on the belief that every child thrives with the right support.

Unlike traditional foster care, PCC caregivers receive specialized therapeutic training, ongoing clinical support, and higher levels of agency involvement to help children heal and grow in a stable home environment. This program meets Alberta’s standards for PCC foster care and is designed for caregivers who are ready to go beyond the basics.

We are currently recruiting Personalized Community Foster Caregivers in and around the Edmonton region, including Leduc, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Fort Saskatchewan, and more.

If you have experience fostering, working with high needs kids, or supporting youth in a group home setting, this could be the right next step for you. Join one of our free, no-obligation online info sessions to learn more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PCC foster care and traditional foster care?

Personalized Community Foster Care (also known as therapeutic foster care (TFC)) is a specialized model designed for children and youth with more complex needs. PCC caregivers receive advanced training and clinical support beyond what is typically offered in traditional foster care.

Do I need to be a current or former foster parent to apply?

While prior experience is strongly preferred, we welcome anyone with significant experience working with high needs children or youth in a professional capacity, such as group home workers, residential care staff, or child and youth care workers.

Is therapeutic foster care the same as PCC foster care in Alberta?

Therapeutic foster care falls within the broader PCC foster care system in Alberta. Our program is structured to meet provincial standards while providing an enhanced level of caregiver training and ongoing support.

What kind of training will I receive?

We provide specialized PCC foster caregiver training to prepare you for the unique challenges and rewards of this work. Details will be shared at the Information Session.
